Special Educational Needs (SEN) Tuition

Every child learns in a way that is uniquely their own. Our SEN tutors are specialists, with experience in dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autistic-spectrum profiles and speech-and-language needs. Their calm, encouraging approach helps pupils build confidence, master key skills and rediscover the pleasure of learning, so they can grow in confidence and reach their academic potential.

Alongside one-to-one tuition, we work with a trusted network of SEN and neurodiversity specialists, including educational psychologists, speech and language therapists and specialist practitioners. This joined-up approach ensures support is thoughtful, well-coordinated and tailored to each child’s needs, academically, emotionally and developmentally.

Why one-to-one SEN tuition makes the difference

Individual tuition removes the bustle of a classroom, giving each child the gift of time and undivided attention. Without the distraction of their peers, a tutor can pause to revisit tricky sounds, rehearse a calculation step-by-step or break work into calm, five-minute bursts that suit shorter attention spans. Consistency matters, too: meeting the same friendly specialist each week builds a trusting rapport, helping anxious learners feel safe enough to take academic risks. Over time, that personal bond translates into sharper focus, steadier progress and a quiet boost in self-belief that carries back into school, and well beyond.

How Our SEN Tutors Can Help

Our tutors can offer support and guidance in a number of different ways. Please take a look at our case studies below.

Case Studies

Samira – Year 5, ADHD & Autism:

Samira’s maths was solid, but English lessons felt overwhelming: long reading passages, open-ended writing tasks and the bustle of the classroom all knocked her focus. We paired her with a calm, KS2-trained tutor experienced in both ADHD and autistic support. Meeting twice a week, the tutor broke each English objective into short, predictable steps – visual story maps for comprehension, timed “word sprints” for spelling, and clear success criteria for every writing paragraph. Movement breaks and a simple reward chart kept motivation high. After one term Samira’s reading age had risen by nine months, she produced her first full page of joined-up writing, and her teacher noted a marked boost in classroom participation and self-confidence.

ADHD – Oliver, Age 11

Oliver struggled to stay on task for longer than ten minutes and dreaded homework. His tutor, Matt, introduced visual timers, movement breaks and colour-coded planning sheets. Lessons are now split into three bite-size blocks, each ending with a quick “success check”. Within a term Oliver could focus for half-hour stretches, handed in his first complete English essay and arrives at lessons calmer and more organised.

SEN Homeschooling Case Study –  Finn, Years 10–11 (ADHD, Focus & Transition Support)

Finn began homeschooling at the start of Year 10 after finding it increasingly difficult to focus and engage in a large classroom setting. Diagnosed with ADHD, he often felt overwhelmed by school routines and struggled to stay on track with multiple subjects. His family wanted a calm, structured alternative that could support his learning while helping him rebuild confidence.

We introduced a small team of specialist SEN tutors experienced in ADHD, GCSE preparation and home education planning. Working closely with the family, we designed a personalised weekly timetable that balanced academic rigour with flexibility, giving Finn the consistency he needed without the pressure of a full school day.

Over two years, Finn studied for his GCSEs in English, Maths, Biology, History and Art. Tutors used a variety of techniques, including short, focused sessions, visual tools, and regular review cycles, to keep him engaged and supported. They also incorporated study-skills coaching to improve organisation and independence.

Finn achieved strong results in his exams and, with our support, successfully applied to an independent sixth form, where he now attends full-time. Returning to mainstream education with renewed confidence, he is thriving in a smaller, more tailored environment. This illustrates how ADHD-focused homeschooling, combined with the support of SEN tutors can bridge the gap and create a successful pathway back into school.

Frequently Asked Questions - SEN Tuition

What is an SEN tutor?
An SEN tutor is a private tutor with specialist training or experience in supporting children with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, dyspraxia, and other neurodiverse profiles. They adapt their teaching to suit each pupil’s learning style and emotional needs, often using multisensory techniques, structured routines and confidence-building strategies.

How is SEN tuition different from mainstream tuition?
SEN tuition is slower-paced, highly personalised and designed around the student, not the syllabus. Our tutors create calm, low-pressure environments where pupils feel safe to ask questions, take risks, and move forward at their own speed. It’s not just about catching up, it’s about feeling seen, supported and capable.

Can SEN tutoring support school learning or an EHCP?
Yes. Many families use our SEN tutoring alongside mainstream or specialist schooling. Tutors can help reinforce what’s being taught in class, prepare for assessments, or support home education. We can also align with EHCP goals and provide regular progress notes that parents may share with schools or support services.

Do you offer online SEN tutoring?
Absolutely. Online tutoring for SEN students can be highly effective, especially when delivered by trained professionals who use visual tools, interactive platforms and short, focused sessions. It also reduces travel anxiety and offers families more flexibility when creating a consistent routine.

Can you help with GCSEs, A Levels or homeschooling for SEN pupils?
Yes. We support neurodiverse learners at all academic levels, from early reading to exam preparation and university entry. For home-educated students, we can build full timetables and provide long-term tuition for subjects like English, Maths, Sciences, History, and Languages, always adapted to individual needs.

Is online or in-person SEN tuition better for my child?
Both formats have distinct benefits – and we’ll help you choose what suits your child best.

In-person tuition is available across London and works brilliantly for children who benefit from hands-on learning, physical resources, or face-to-face encouragement. For many SEN learners, particularly those with ADHD, dyslexia or processing differences, having a tutor beside them brings focus, motivation and a greater sense of security.

Online tuition can be equally effective and sometimes better suited to pupils who feel anxious in new environments or prefer a quieter, more flexible setup. With interactive whiteboards, screen-sharing and visual tools, our tutors deliver calm, structured sessions that build confidence, wherever you are in the UK or overseas.

Whichever format you choose, we’ll recommend the right tutor for your child’s needs, learning style and goals.

Can my child’s EHCP be used to fund SEN tuition or homeschooling?
Yes, in some cases. If your child has an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), it may be possible to use allocated funding to support part-time or full-time homeschooling, especially if a school setting is no longer meeting their needs. While we are not legal education specialists, we regularly work with families in this position and can refer you to trusted EHCP consultants or advocates who can advise you on the process.
You also have the legal right to home-educate a child with SEN – even if they have an EHCP. However, for the most up to date guidance our experienced SEN tutors can provide tailored tuition at home or online, and help you build a realistic, nurturing educational plan.
